Up North: FMTV’s Top Tracks Of 2017

0

It’s been a huge year for the north with a stream of artists breaking through. There’s been loads of incredible music videos, tracks and projects, with northern artists starting to release their music on platforms like iTunes and Spotify. It’s been great to see so many people starting to take notice of the scene!

In no particular order, we’ve put together a list of our favourite tracks out of the north from 2017.

AJ – Money Over Pagans

AJ dropped one of the biggest tracks this year with his debut music video Money Over Pagans. It was featured on famous platforms including Rhythmic and The Wall Of Music, and has racked up over 75,000 views to date. AJ’s definitely one to watch in 2018!

90s ft. K Dee, Blacxy & Graft – Mmmm!!

90s linked up with K Dee, Blacxy & Graft for a huge banger – Mmmm!!, filmed by First Media TV and released on Link Up TV. 90s has been one of many Leeds artists reaching out to national music platforms like Link Up this year.

The Movement – In The Streets (D Knowledge, Jay Esco & Shakaveli)

Manchester artists D Knowledge, Jay Esco & Shakaveli came together for their wavey collab In The Streets which was released on Link Up TV. You might recognise Shakaveli from his Heat Session on First Media TV back in September. We’ve been hearing some great music coming out of Manchester this year and we’re looking forward to seeing what the city’s artists have for 2018.

Graft – Showaa

A grimey track from Graft’s debut EP All Sorts, Showaa was a unique video released on Link Up TV this summer. Definitely one for any grime and garage fans out there. We had a great time filming this one, with some heavy visuals and guest appearances from Phantom Boys members Notez, Yefe & K Dee.

AJ x QBizz – Oh Why

AJ & QBizz released their emotional video for Oh Why, dedicated to their friends Darnell, Ellis & Elliott who recently lost their lives in a tragic car crash. The video received over 10,000 views in the first 24 hours and the artists have been interviewed by Radio Aire News following the videos release.

Dialect – Do Your Thing

Another Leeds artist to drop an EP this year, Dialect’s Do Your Thing is one of our favourite tracks from Lifting The Curse. Dialect has been up there with the top northern artists for a long time, and he certainly didn’t disappoint with his latest project. We can’t wait to hear more music from this guy!

Bugzy Malone – We Don’t Play

Arguably the biggest artist in the north right now, it’s been another great year for Bugzy Malone. This hard video for his banger We Don’t Play has racked up over 5 million views on his own channel.

Temz – Genesis

Temz has been one to watch this year, with some sick link ups with AJ, KB, MG and other artists. His debut music video Genesis has lived up to our high expectations too! If you see Temz on a track next year just know it’s going to be a banger…

T Kid – Call On Me

Bradford’s T Kid has dropped too many bangers this year including R£Up Freestyle, Living and Prince Omari’s Whippin Remix with Luke Kash and T Kid. But our favourite definitely has to be Call On Me, with a wavey vibe, catchy hook and some smooth visuals!

K Dee ft. Mya Craig, 90s & Pertrelli – I Know

Phantom’s K Dee, winner of Heat Sessions Season 2, linked up with Mya Craig, 90s & Pertrelli for I Know. The four Leeds artists seem to bounce off each other in a track that you’ll find yourself singing along to! We hope you like the visuals as much as we do, you may even notice a guest appearance from Graft…

Appoluso – Bad Apples

Produced by Merouac, Appoluso dropped his wavey single Bad Apples earlier this year and we had to take notice! If you haven’t heard of Appoluso before then you need to put your headphones in, sit back and just vibe to this one…

KB – Somebody

KB may be new to the Leeds music scene but he has released banger after banger! Featuring on several Heat Sessions alongside the likes of AJ, Temz, HC and more, he’s followed up with a huge debut music video for Somebody. We’re excited to hear more from KB next year!

Deep Green ft. Ruell – Picture Me Rolling

Two of Sheffield’s biggest artists, Deep Green and Ruell, linked up for one of our favourite tracks this year, Picture Me Rolling. Released on SBTV, this track really does have it all. With incredible visuals, a wavey chorus and a deep storyline, we don’t know how it doesn’t have more than the 235,000 views it has to date!

Darkz – Armed & Ready

We first heard of Darkz with his hard track Armed & Ready, released back in April. Darkz’ unique flow caught our eyes straight away, and he delivered yet again with a sick freestyle when we came down to Sheffield for his Heat Session. He also released his latest mixtape Tugavelli earlier this month, go check it out now!

Wrigz – Letter To My Sons

Manchester legend Wrigz recently released his latest track Letter To My Sons on SBTV. This emotional letter to his two sons follows a heart-wrenching story of a father’s fight for his children. Big respect to Wrigz for this one!

Hx2 – Payphone

Bradford’s H5 & BB linked up for Payphone earlier this year as Hx2. Released on the First Media TV Soundcloud, the track racked up over 10,000 plays in the space of a few weeks!
